Environmental Stewardship

Open Spaces

Our acreage includes open biodynamic pasture for our cows and sheep, as well as forested hillsides, marked hiking paths, and beautiful streams and wetlands that are home to so many amphibians, reptiles, birds, and macroinvertebrates.

Our Village Environmental Group has performed a number of citizen science studies in different seasons, surveying our streams for indicators of stream health. The group also keeps close track of energy use and recycle and waste practices in our community.

Biodynamic Agriculture

The ecological and spiritual connections of our farm system are held in high regard in Camphill Village. We are always learning from our gardens, our soil, our livestock, and the energies that are impacting our farm and our community. As such, we are developing alongside our farm at all times.

We mix the Biodynamic preparations using compost, manure, horn silica, and herbs we grow and collect in the Village. Our dairy herd, pigs, and sheep consume the pasture grass and hay that have received applications of these mixtures; the vegetables and medicinal plants in Camphill Village grow healthily under these nourishing preparations, as well.
