The Village Green
Located at the corner of Camphill Road and Ring Road is a social gathering place on weekends for many villagers as well as an attraction for visitors. Inside the Village Green, visitors will find The Village Library and Coffee Shop, our Café, and the Gift Shop.
The Village Library and Coffee Shop is a relatively new addition to Camphill Village’s social landscape. Thanks to the generosity of The Soubry Family, the Village Library now has over 400 books and nearly 200 classical music CDs, an internet-connected computer, DVDs, audiobooks, subscriptions, and programming for all villagers to enjoy. In the Coffee Shop, an espresso machine donated by the Steffey Family provides a variety of coffees to all who visit, and cookies and tea are also available. Visitors may stop by the Coffee Shop Tuesdays-Saturdays (10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.). The Café is open for lunch at 12:30 every Tuesday and Thursday; the public is welcome, but a reservation is required to dine at the Café. Please call (518) 329-7919 to make a reservation. A full meal with dessert is carefully prepared and served by a local cook and her staff of villagers, and dietary restrictions are accommodated. On Friday evenings, villagers often gather in the Café for poetry readings, dances, or other social occasions.
The Village Green Gift Shop is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. There, you will find products made in one of our many workshops, including cookies and other baked goods, beeswax candles, beautiful woolen and chenille scarves, wooden toys and blocks, and other handcrafted items. The Gift Shop also offers a fine selection of books on anthroposophy, curative education, social therapy, along with carefully chosen books for children, families, art lovers and crafts people.
